Member services are available for life to those that join the PFA while an Apprentice or Professional player. LFE would advise all Apprentices to join The PFA to ensure that they are eligible to take full advantage of all The PFA can offer.
Remember once a member always a member, so players are able to enjoy the numerous benefits and services on offer even after they have left the professional game.
Education Funding
The PFA’s Education team provide guidance and funding for educational and vocational courses that support personal development and transition towards a second career.
Using their close links to Universities across the country, the PFA can help former apprentices gain places on a range of courses, including Professional Sports Writing and Broadcasting, Physiotherapy and Sport Science, as well as other courses like a Level 2 Certificate in Counselling.
Bursary funding is also available, with PFA members able to apply for a maximum of £1,500 per any one course during PFA’s financial year (July-June), although this is capped at £5,000 for each individual.
Coaching Qualifications
The PFA help members attain FA and UEFA qualifications, which are often mandatory requirements when applying for jobs in coaching and management within professional football.
Courses are provided across the country and at times to suit both current and former players.
Well-being Support & Counselling
Support is available 24 hours a day via the PFA’s Counselling Helpline (07500 000 777). Another tool is the PFA Safety Net, which is free to access 24/7, while you can also email wellbeing@thepfa.co.uk
Where appropriate, members can receive 26-day residential treatment at the Sporting Chance Clinic, which provides a safe, dedicated environment for sportspeople to receive support and counselling.
All services are private and confidential.
